About & Contact

Jordan Freeman is the Host of Nickel City Frequencies. A life long Sudburian, he has a strong passion for dance music and the associated culture. In addition to his involvement in a small local scene, he’s made a project of seeking out dance music culture in many of Ontario’s small towns, cities and internationally. WHY DOES THIS EXIST?

Started as a passion project of Jordan Freeman in January 2022; Nickel City Frequencies is a weekly radio program hosted on CKLU 96.7 FM in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, airing locally and online on cklu.ca from 10:00 PM until Midnight each Sunday (with replay episodes during the same time the following Tuesday).

Based on a burning love for all things rave, Nickel City Frequencies is focused on playing the best in rave and underground dance music sounds from across the globe and helping DJs form connections with each other and their fans in the ephemeral, hyper-charged world of the internet era.

This blog is a platform for long read content not otherwise suitable for the radio program or Twitter. You’ll be able to find things like music and event reviews and interviews with artists and other movers in the scene here, as well as any other fun stuff Jordan might turn up.

History:

Trance Till Ten / Trance Till Twelve
(~2005 – 2007)
Jordan’s history with CKLU FM started in roughly 2005 when he started the programs Trance Till Ten and Trance Till Twelve with Greater Sudbury Cohost CaktalFraktal. Playing the sounds of happy hardcore and classic trance, Jordan and CaktalFraktal used the program as an outlet for their creative desires in rave music, during a time when dance music had largely faded from public view. Not to be deterred, the two of them (aged roughly 16 at the time of founding) continued to run the program for the duration of their youth.

The Rabbit Hole (Regular Guest)
(~2009 – 2012)
After leaving Sudbury for school, Jordan continued to appear on the CKLU FM program “The Rabbit Hole” created and curated by CaktalFraktal. It was during this time that Jordan began experimenting with sounds such as dubstep as well as changing the main focus of his DJing from happy hardcore to drum and bass and jungle.

Raves and Festivals
(2005 – Present)
Jordan has kept his toes in the water of the underground dance music scene in Ontario throughout the 15+ years since he attended his first rave and he bought his first record. Having lived in Guelph, Barrie and Thunder Bay, Ontario, before returning to Greater Sudbury, Jordan has immersed himself in the local dance music cultures of Ontario’s small towns, while also continually returning to Toronto to attend events in Ontario’s Drum and Bass hub.

As a DJ Jordan has performed at Northern Vibe Festival, Solstice Gathering / ORP, River & Sky Music and Camping Festival, acted as a Resident DJ of an afterhours and played small raves / free-parties in cities like Toronto, Thunder Bay and Sudbury. Jordan most regularly spins Liquid Drum and Bass and Jungle during his live appearances and plays an eclectic mix of DNB, Footwork, Hardcore, Dubstep, Grime and occasionally Techno or House during radio mixes.
