REVIEW “D-BLK003” by Nahlith

Minimalist Label Art

Up next on the review surgical table we have Victoria, BC based, Nahlith. He’s already started making waves with his 2021 release on FatKidOnFire: FKxF005 and with this release we mark Nahlith’s jump from digital releases into physical media with his first vinyl release.

“D-BLK003″ comes as a limited 10” vinyl record w/ digital copies also available. Featuring three tracks of proper deep 140 goodness, Nahlith showcases what he can do in fine style.

The opening track Python is a minimal stepper, tracked over with subtle woodwind melodies, middle-eastern string flourishes and the filtered grime vox. I can definitely see this track sitting along side similar stuff from names like Egoless or Gantz in future mixes.

Flipping over to the B-Side we have two more tracks, “Half Full” and “Hera”. “Half Full” takes the depth of python and cranks it up to 11 with powerful bass hits and shimmering pads while the high end of the percussion runs rampant over the lurching beat.

“Hera” is my favorite track of the release. Suitably named, the track opens with beautiful looping string plucks while an urgent, pressing bassline fills the space left in the percussion. The track makes me feel like I’m about to consult the Oracle at Delphi (and the news is could be bad) in the best possible way. Arguably the most melodic track on the release, this track has an smooth, flowing push to it that the others don’t and for that reason it’s my pick of this release.

Overall “D-BKL003” is a wicked piece of dubstep/140 and major props are due to the man Nahlith on the strength of this new vinyl release. You can purchase “D-BLK003” by Nahlith on Bandcamp at the link below:
