REVIEW: “MEMORIES” by Luvely

Jewel Case Art, Holographic Card and Tape Art

Released on No Problema Tapes / Hiraeth Records, “Memories” by Luvely is a forty-minute ambient synth journey through layered melodies, rich textures and evocative pads. As a fan of electronic music and dance music in general, I’ve gotten used to an experience of listening to music where serious concentration on a task like reading isn’t possible if the music is playing. This problem isn’t the case when it comes to ambient works and this album in particular.

“Memories” is the sort of music that you can easily put on and focus on other things while still actively digesting it’s contents. Entirely beat / percussion-free, the focus of Luvely on this work is on progressive development of melody. Whether it is growing “The Day After Tomorrow” or the sprinkling keys of “Disengage from This Life”, Memories consistently pushes a calming ambience that is perfect for your morning coffee or your morning yoga. The mood of this work is curious, hopeful and a little bit shy. My personal favorite from this album is “Cyber Infinity” on Side B of the tape.
